Headingley Voices and other local choirs will begin with a Mass Sing at the Farmers’ Market from 12.00 – 12.30pm. Followed by Street Busking from 1.15pm in various Headingley locations including outside Salvos, Arndale Centre outside Arcadia and the corner of Wood Lane, the Rose Garden on North Lane and outside TSB bank, throughout the afternoon and finishing at Shire Oak Primary School with a mass sing with Headingley school children from 3.45pm

Shire Oak School Youth Music Day – a fun musical event for young people and their families, with live music on the main stage from local, young performers, including a steel pan band, djembe drummers, a choir from local schools, along with Headingley Voices and a variety of soloists. Rock School will be running their very popular workshop, culminating in a headline performance.
Other drop-in workshops include DJ skills and learn to play a variety of musical instruments. Storytellers will delight young and old alike, whilst there are plenty of craft opportunities to enjoy and music making for tinies. There will be plenty to do, with bouncy castles, an inflatable assault course, ice creams, stalls, dancing, football, food, drink and much more

10:00 am – 11:00 am: Adapted Ukulele for Beginners: Play ukulele with the easy button push method especially designed for people with limited dexterity in their hands and fingers. Colour coded large print song sheets are provided for everyone to sing along and strum some old time favourite tunes. It’s easy to learn and ideal for beginners.
11:15 am – 12:15 pm: Absolute Beginner Ukulele: Suitable for adults and children, this is a fun introduction to the ukulele where people learn how to tune and hold the ukulele, name its parts, make chord shapes and sing a selection of simple popular and traditional tunes. Kate Ryrie and Skinner & T’witch
Kate Ryrie is a Leeds based singer-songwriter who has recently recorded her debut EP ‘Thinking Tree’. She has an acoustic folk inspired sound, based on strong lyrics and good melodies. Hear her on Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/kateryrie)
Skinner & T’witch combine many influences – British folk, flamenco, musicals, classical and ‘world’ music. This year they are appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Acoustic Festival of Britain and in New York. Their new album ‘The Fool’s Journey’ was released in April.
